Black, Latinx & Women Owned.
Hi, we're Hanne and David, the founders of Lassgård Kaffe, a company all about sustainability and equality in the coffee industry. Our journey began in 2017 when we traveled to Medellin searching for David's biological parents. Although we didn't find any relatives, we stumbled upon a coffee tour in the Colombian Andes. There, we discovered the entire coffee process and the harsh reality of how Western exploitation has impacted coffee farmers, leading to issues like modern slavery and poverty.
This realization drove us to disrupt the 200-year-old coffee industry, challenging the misleading stories told by other coffee companies. Unlike them, we won't pretend to teach farmers to be better farmers or build schools instead of paying fair wages. We are here to expose the truth.
Other companies may claim to have fantastic relationships with farmers, but they won't tell you that only a small fraction of the money from their coffee goes to the hardworking farmers. Most of it ends up in the hands of middlemen, leaving the farmers with little. Their coffee also takes multiple journeys through various middlemen before reaching you.
So, why are we doing this? Simply put, we despise injustices. We couldn't accept the exploitation, so we founded Lassgård to connect you directly with the producer/farmer/roaster, cutting out the middlemen and empowering farmers to set their prices. Thanks for being part of this journey. Your presence is appreciated.
